  • Language and LiteracyDevelopment

    • Make early attempts at speaking
    • Learn to understand a variety of words by listening, observing, and engaging
    • Learn that gestures and sounds communicate meaning and use them to express needs, wants, and interests
    • Listen to books being read aloud
    • Reach for books and turn the pages with help
    • Respond to stories and pictures by vocalizing and patting the pictures
  • Mathematical Development

    • Begin to predict the sequence of events (like running water means bath time)
    • Start to understand basic cause and effect (shaking a rattle makes noise)
    • Begin to classify things in simple ways (some toys make noise and some don’t)
    • Start to understand relative size (baby is small parents are big)
    • Begin to understand words that describe quantities (more, bigger, enough)
  • Social and Emotional Development

    • Form an attachment to familiar adults
    • Begin to interact with other children
    • Express some emotions through sounds, facial expressions, and movements
    • Build a sense of self by recognizing oneself in a mirror.
  • Wellness and Physical Development

    • Work on physical milestones like rolling over and crawling.
    • Coordinate hand movements to begin reaching for and grasping objects.
    • Start to cooperate with care routines like getting dressed and washing hands.
    • Show an interest in eating and trying new food.
  • Cognitive Development

    • Recognize and react to familiar sounds and faces
    • Use the five senses to explore and observe
    • Begin to imitate facial features
    • Manipulate objects by turning them over, putting one object in another etc.
    • Begin to copy the simple actions of others
    • Perform actions to gain a response
  • Creative Expression Development

    • Respond to contrasting colors, sounds and movement
    • Get used to new textures, like wet, slimy or sticky
    • Express feelings through movement
    • Listen to music and experiment with toys
